Spud the Scarecrow

From Pooh’s Adventures Wiki
Spud The Scarecrow

Spud is a mischievous anthropomorphic scarecrow who lives on Farmer Pickles' farm and always attempts to help Bob and the crew, although his efforts usually end in disaster due to his clumsiness.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Spud is a tricky, mischievous, impulsive, childish yet endearing scarecrow who constantly creates multiple problems for Bob and his crew with his antics and gets into trouble. Although he often means well and tries to help out, he causes more problems than he solves and his antics include stealing food, borrowing ladders, taking Bob's tools, not to mention causing other machines (Lofty) to fall down, causing delay for the entire team. He has limited intelligence and judgement, and needs to learn not to play tricks on others, take their belongings without asking and show good manners.

However, Spud is also a sympathetic individual and is willing to show genuine remorse and apologises when he realises the consequences of his wrongdoings. In addition, he learns from his wrongdoings and never makes the same mistake again.

Physical appearance[edit | edit source]

Spud is a living (presumably mutated) scarecrow that wears a lavender shirt with a red and green scarf, blue trousers, a brown belt and he has a sharp cone-shaped replaceable parsnip nose which has been bent by accident twice.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Spud is best friends with Norman Price since they're both naughty and likes to play tricks.
  • In the UK dub of the first to sixth series, Spud's voice was more nasally and had a bit of a lisp, but starting with the seventh series (with also the US dub starting with the tenth series), Spud's voice resembles the one of Zippy from the ITV children's television series Rainbow.
  • In the first series episode Scary Spud Spud mentions his grandfather and father and in The Album he mentions his mother implying that Spud wasn't created but rather born and that there are other sentient scarecrows besides him.
  • Spud is the only character who has been in jail (though it was only in Muck's daydream). This was featured in the special Built to be Wild.
  • In the third series episode "Bob's Boots", it was revealed that Spud does not like cheese and chutney.
    • This was changed to peanut butter and jelly in the US dub.
  • In the sixth series episode "Bob's Pizza", it was revealed that Spud's favourite pizza has apple, turnip and jam on it, which he calls "The Spud Special".
  • Until the third series episode "Scoop Has Some Fun", Lofty was afraid of him.
  • Spud appeared only a few times in the main series of Ready, Steady, Build!, but he appears in every episode from both mini-series.
  • Spud is one of the many characters who does not have a counterpart in the 2015 reboot, which takes place in a different universe, along with Bird, Travis, Scruffty, Mrs. Potts, Mr. Beasley, Benny and Scrambler. However, Farmer Pickles appears in the episode Barn Building Bedlam.
    • In the Turkish version, Spud is called "Kiz".
  • His name is a synonym or another word for "potato".
  • In Snowed Under: Bobblesberg Winter Games, it was revealed that Spud had a crush on Charlene.
