In the process, she taught him a painful lesson in being sensitive and considerate towards his friends and family when she whacked him really hard in the head. Just to show Max how his widowed father, Goofy, really felt since his departure. Because Max has failed to realize that Goofy is not only suffering depression due to the death of his wife (Max's unnamed and unseen mother), but that he's suffering empty nest syndrome and is having problems move on while figuring ways to stay connected with him. She convinced him to stop running away from his father and go find him so he can apologize and ask for his help. For she believes that Max is the only one who can undo Bowser's evil doings and save everyone with his father's help.
