Butterfree is a Bug/Flying-type Pokémon evolved form a Metapod and the final form of Caterpie. In the anime, Butterfree was Ash Ketchum's first Pokémon he has ever captured when he began his journey as a trainer. He used it in many battles until he decided to release it in order to mate with a Pink Butterfree and form a family with it. Drew also owns a Butterfree.

Agent Ben mentioned that he previously owned a Butterfree named Baron, but much like Ash's, Baron was released.
