Ash formed a brotherly bond with Jesse. When Ash and his friends first met Jesse, they weren't pleased with the crimes he committed. Ash announced that Officer Jenny had asked him and his friends to be his escorts as he told Jesse that he would listen to them, and they’d help him. Later after cleaning up Jesse, Ash, and the others made friends with a captive orca whale named Willy. Ash felt sorry for Jesse since his mother abandoned him six years prior. Ash would help Jesse free Willy. Ash comforted Jesse when Willy failed his first performance due to stage fright from the kids banging on the glass. Ash and his friends were saddened to learn that Jesse's mother passed away when Dwight, the Greenwoods told Jesse the bad news.
