Ash strongly disliked McLeach since he kidnapped a little boy named Cody, tricked the Australian boy's mother into believing her son was killed by crocodiles and trapping innocent wild animals. In the film's climax, Ash was deeply enraged when McLeach manipulated Cody's friendship with the giant golden eagle, Marahute, and used it as a selfish advantage for his sick, twisted plans. Ash's anger towards McLeach was further pushed to the limits when he almost had him and his team killed in a cave-in and tried to have his lizard, Joanna, eat Marahute's eggs. Luckily, while he was knocked out, Scooby, Shaggy, Bugs, Daffy, and Bernard foiled McLeach's plan by tricking the lizard and switched the eggs out with rocks. Later when he and his allies finally caught up with McLeach at Crocodile Falls, Ash confronted the vile poacher and challenged him to a battle in an act of vengeance for the pain and humiliation he's inflicted onto Cody, Marahute, and his team. During the battle, Ash had almost given up hope when it looked like McLeach had won. But luckily, Cody's friendship with the eagle along with Ash's friendship with his team and his Pokémon gave him the strength he needed to defeat the wicked poacher once and for all.
