Upon meeting the Titans for the first time, Ash was told by them about their wicked enemy, Slade, and to always stay away from him at all costs. And since his battles with him, Ash showed a deep grudge towards Slade due to the malicious cruelty he inflicted towards the Teen Titans, Terra, and the innocent people of Jump City. After telling Serena the story about how Slade almost corrupted Robin into betraying his teammates and committing crimes as his apprentice, Ash admitted that he doesn't understand why he's so obsessed with destroying the Teen Titans and why he would corrupt a pure-hearted hero like Robin. But then again, he understands that Slade is something that can't be changed: another dangerous criminal betting on chaos and devastation. During Serena's confrontation with Terra, Slade maliciously told her that her attempts of talking the corrupted blonde down is meaningless and that she no longer has any friends. Ash became angered with Slade making threats at his childhood friend, so he ran up and angrily told him to back off and stay out of their conversation or he'll be dealing with him. After Terra presumably sent him to his fiery doom in the lava pit, Ash believed that Slade was gone for good. However, after he was revived by Trigon and inflicted more pain by targeting his close friend, Raven, his grudge towards him resurfaced. His anger towards him grew even further when Slade called him and Tino fools after calming Raven down when she had the chance to finish him off. And even after teaming up with him in order to rescue Raven from Trigon's prison, Ash still hasn't forgiven Slade for his heinous actions in the past. However, during their journey in the underground netherworld, Slade admitted to Ash that he's a pretty wise boy when he learned about Trigon's involvement in his unexpected resurrection.
