Ash felt sorry for Lilo since her parents died in a tragic car crash and she didn't have any friends (except for her Oddish, Hula). Ash defends Lilo from a mean and jealous girl named Mertle Edmonds and her friends Yuki, Elena, and Teresa. In The Grass Route!, Ash is seen cheering for Lilo in her battle against Mertle Edmonds in the Grass Tournament. In Dummy, You Shrunk the Kids!, Ash gets shrunken along with Lilo, Ritsu, Mio, Miki, Kathy, Oscar, Sophocles, and Lillie.
