Despite having arrived in her world with his Alolan Classmates prior to their first adventure together, Ash only knew of Lara by reputation much like many who were familiar with her line of work before they first met. At first, she was initially hesitant to allow him and his friends to tag along for her quest for the Scion, partly out of concern for their safety in the dangerous territories she would visit, but following their efforts to collaborate to advance in the perilous situations ahead of them and their own suspicions of the mysterious Jacqueline Natla, the two of them have worked together to uncover the secrets of many a forgotten civilization and history and outdoing those that would dare use those secrets for darker purposes.

Although Ash isn't one for being much of a history 'geek' as his friends would sometimes tease him about (unless it had anything to do with Legendary Pokémon and related myths), by Legend, he's shown to display more appreciation for the beauty and wonder of certain ancient architectures because of the places he's visited alongside Lara and even he admits he owes that sort of self-discovery to her efforts. Although he knows she can be capable of handling nearly anything, if something on their quests makes her past come back to haunt her, he knows when to provide emotional support for her and when he needs to give her space to allow her to process these thoughts on her own.
