To say that Ash and Jotaro got off to the best of starts would unfortunately be an overstatement. Jotaro's offstandish behaviour and rude words would often put him at odds with Ash throughout most of the eventual journey of the Stardust Crusaders. The trainer at first didn't take kindly to Jotaro after witnessing him brushing off his own mother after being released from prison and returning to school, even to the point they would end up getting into arguments with Ash often being the more vocal of the two and despite their relationship briefly straining when Jotaro was willing to bet Holly's soul just to force D'arby to surrender to his bluff over protecting the secret of DIO's stand instead, the two of them had gotten along better towards the end of their journey to DIO's Mansion. They are willing to put each other's differences aside when they or their friends are in grave danger and have been known to agree on things every now and again, having fought DIO back to back with Jotaro playing a crucial role in helping Ash see and briefly move in DIO's stopped time.
	
Throughout Diamond is Unbreakable, Ash and Jotaro are shown to have complete trust within one another to the point the two of them work together as an efficient team despite their occasional disagreements. Their relationship however had strained again when Ash and co were sent hurtling through time for the final time (by DIO Over Heaven) and he found out that Jotaro's bond with his former wife and Jolyne had been shattered and thus found friction between the two of them once again. By the time the two were close to fully reconciling however, that was the moment that Jotaro made the ultimate sacrifice to save Jolyne from Pucci, resulting in his own death. Ash mourned Jotaro (and eventually Jolyne's) deaths with great grief as he and Emperio still had to battle Pucci to ensure their sacrifices weren't in vain, eventually resulting in Emperio's ultimate victory where only a small portion of the prior timeline was rewritten.
	
When that reset had taken place, Ash found himself reliving the journey of the Stardust Crusaders once again before he and Jotaro would come across the burning pages of DIO's diary. Throughout their travels through time and alternate universes together with their friends and the Joestar Bloodline from all points of history, Ash managed to have some effect on Jotaro to the point he softened up a little around his friends, family (and future daughter) and eventually, after defeating DIO Over Heaven (who summoned Ash to various points in the timeline all that time in an effort to destabilize it) once and for all together alongside their companions, Jotaro managed to restore the timeline to mostly how it had played out and with Ash's advice had managed to make amends with Jolyne permanently, ensuring that she wouldn't have to grow up all on her own. Following this and the good future Emperio had achieved from defeating Pucci in the prior timeline, Jotaro whilst still offstandish and tough has otherwise become a better man because of Ash (much to his own annoyance) and is always on hand with Star Platinum Over Heaven to assist him, wherever and whenever he needs it.
