(LaCroque throws Madeline in a small detention cell.)

Madame LaCroque: Spoiled brats have to learn the hard way.

Jessie: Annoying little twerps I must say.

Wobbuffet: Wobbuffet!!

Henri: And you are the best teacher.

James: (tauntingly, to Madeline) Good night, twerp!

Meowth: (tauntingly) Sweet dreams, twoip! (snickering)

(Madame LaCroque, Henri and Team Rocket laugh evilly.)

Madeline: I don't see what is so funny. (sighs as she takes out her remaining bead) Oh, Mama. (sobs quietly)

(Later, Ash, seeing the villains heading back upstairs to close up shop and head for bed, takes advantage of the opportunity and seizes his chance to break into the factory to talk to Madeline.)

Ash Ketchum: (lets out Infernape and Lucario) I want you guys to keep watch while we go in and comfort Madeline.

(Infernape and Lucario respond affirmatively and stand guard.)

Ash Ketchum: (pushes the window open) We'll be right back. Hopefully, it won't be long. (sneaks in the factory through the basement window; grunts) Sometimes, this spying stuff is getting way too old for me. But our friend is in trouble and that's what matters.

Pikachu: (sneaks through the window) Pi! Pika!

(As they wander over to the detention cell, a breeze of cold air is heard blowing and drops of water is heard. Rats hear Ash's footsteps and scatter. Ash approaches the door to the detention cell and peaks through the bars.)

Ash Ketchum: (V.O.; whispers) Pssst. Madeline. Hey, Madeline!

Madeline: Huh? W-Who is it? Who is there?

(Ash uses his old library card to slip through the lock and open the door.)

Ash Ketchum: (whispers) It's me, Ash. 

Pikachu: Pika Pika.

(Madeline gasps; Ash and Pikachu quietly enter the detention room and immediately closes the door.)

Madeline: (overjoyed to see them) Oh, Ash, Pikachu. (hugs Ash and Pikachu) How did you find me? 

Ash Ketchum: Pikachu and I followed you without getting noticed. I heard that guy wasn't related to you.

Madeline: Non, Ash. This man's name is Henri. He tricked me into coming here and he is not from Vienna.

Ash Ketchum: I knew that guy was trouble.

Madeline: That woman, Madame LaCroque, hired him to kidnap me so that she could keep me prisoner here in this factory while also planning to steal my family's money.

Ash Ketchum: Yes, yes, we know all about it. Pikachu and I heard the whole thing while we were spying from one of the windows. Those jerks were just plain terrible! Oh, I can't wait to give them a piece of my mind once I get my hands on them. Right, Pikachu?

Pikachu: Pikachu!

Ash Ketchum: (sighs calmly) We're very sorry this happened to you today, Madeline. But you know what? I wish you could've been around to meet my very good friend, Ariel, and her husband, Eric. They wouldn't have treated you like those two have.

Madeline: What were they like?

Ash Ketchum: (chuckles) Eric is a prince who's noble, very kind, handsome, and incredibly brave. And Ariel. Well, let's just say she came from another world, but wanted to become a part of ours.

Madeline: What do you mean?

Ash Ketchum: Do you wanna know a secret? (whispers) Ariel started out as a mermaid.

Madeline: (gasps) Vraiment?!

Ash Ketchum: Shh!!

Madeline: Opps! Sorry. I mean (whispers) vraiment?!

Ash Ketchum: Yes, really.

Madeline: Tell me more about her.

Ash Ketchum: Okay. (flashbacks of the Pokémon/Little Mermaid series occur) She's beautiful and really nice to everyone. She had this angelic voice that gave me and my friends comfort when we were lonely and weak. But like you, she had red hair, and was rebellious as well as brave. She never was afraid to let anything keep her from being with the man that she loves. Not even her controlling father. But then one day, (sighs sadly) an evil sea witch named Ursula, led her astray. She used her magic to offer Ariel a life-threatening deal. It was to become human for three days so that Eric could kiss her or else she will be Ursula's slave forever. However, I never felt at ease with the sea witch because of how untrustworthy she was on her side of the deal. During those three days while helping Ariel win Eric's heart as well as his affection, I've always felt that Ursula was up to no good. But on the third day, it didn't take long for us to realize Ursula's true intentions when she tried to ruin Ariel and Eric's relationship. (the flashbacks end; sighs) I'm sorry, Madeline. Here I am trying to cheer you up and you're having to lend your shoulder because I'm getting all tearful about my past.

Madeline: It's alright. It helps me talk about something else rather than what happened. I still can't believe how I foolish I've been when I thought that man was my "uncle" from Vienna. But what else can I say? They're right. I have no family and I left the old house for nothing. I wish I'd realized his intentions sooner. (begins crying) Oh, Mama. (sniffs)

(Ash looks on sadly at Madeline.)

Pikachu: (sadly) Pika...

(Madeline sadly looks up and sees the sun go down.)

Madeline: (singing) Here I sit so cold and hungry,

Feeling lost and far away.

Happiness is just a memory.

A patch of sun from yesterday.

Where is the hope that I once knew?

My dreams have vanished it is true.

When will the sun come shining through?

Where is the hope that I once knew?

(As Madeline sings, a fly flies in and gets caught in a spider web. Ash, though feeling sorry towards Madeline for being tricked and led astray by a total stranger, doesn't take her despair lightly.)

Ash Ketchum: Madeline, I understand how you feel. But from what you're saying about you not having a family, I don't believe in it. How can you say that you don't have a family when you've already had one all along? For the last three days, we all thought you were related to someone from Vienna. But this is a major upgrade! You don't have to be blood related just to show us that you have a family. Miss Clavel, Pepito, and all your friends are like a family to you. Heck! Me and my friends are like family to you too. As what Miss Clavel said before, Madeline, families come in all shapes and sizes as long as they have each other. And you know what, Madeline? I'm sure that they're all back at home thinking about you and they're doing everything they can to find you.

Madeline: Really?

Ash Ketchum: Really. So, who cares what Madame LaCroque says? Don't let anything she does hold you down. You're still the bravest, little girl of the bunch. You just gotta have faith in yourself and in your friends. And as long as you do that, then I'm sure that you will get out of this horrible place.

Pikachu: Pikachu!

(Madeline looks at her last remaining bead with the lion picture on it and thinks about what Ash said.)

Madeline: (singing) Friends would call me bravest lion.

I once had that kind of roar. (the bead's lion roars)

If I reach inside for courage,

Perhaps I can be strong once more. (Ash nods in agreement)

Pikachu: Pika!

Madeline: (singing) I'll find the hope that I once knew. (removes the fly from the spider web and sets it free)

And I will make my dreams come true.

I'll see the sun come shining through.

Full of the hope that I once knew.

Factory girls: (V.O.; singing) We'll find the hope that we once knew.
 
And we will make our dreams come true.

Madeline: (gasps)

Ash Ketchum: Huh? Who is that?

Pikachu: Pika?

Factory girls: (V.O.; singing) We'll sing the sun come shining through.

Madeline: Fifi!

Ash Ketchum: Fifi?

Factory girls: (V.O.; singing) Full of the hope. (Full of the hope.)

That we once knew!

(Madeline picks up a nail and grids through the cement.)

Madeline: Fifi? Are you there? (pulls out a brick, revealing the other side of the wall where the other factory girls are)

Fifi: Madeline, we were worried. Are you alright?

Madeline: Mais oui. Fifi, I've decided we must escape.

Fifi: Ah, that is not so easy. I tried. (coughs) As punishment, LaCroque cut off my hair to make black lace. (sees Ash and Pikachu) Oh, who do we have here?

Madeline: Oh, Fifi, this is Ash Ketchum and Pikachu.

Ash Ketchum: Hello there.

Fifi: Nice to meet you, Ash. And you too, Pikachu.

Pikachu: Pikachu.

Ash Ketchum: Pikachu and I couldn't help but feel sorry for you and the other girls.

Fifi: (coughs) You saw and heard the whole thing?

Ash Ketchum: (nods) Uh-huh. I'm sorry that you're not feeling so well, Fifi.

Pikachu: Pika.

(Pikachu nestles against Fifi)

Ash Ketchum: Don't give up 'til it's over, okay? By the way, uh, why is LaCroque so miserable to you girls anyway? Why does she treat you all like prisoners?

Fifi: They say she was a cabaret star once.

Pikachu: Pika?

(A flashback was shown during LaCroque's younger years where she was a cabaret dancer, performing her latest show.)

Fifi: (V.O.) Then something happened.

Narrator: Fifi explained that LaCroque was a dancer whose kicks dazzled all of Paris. And one fatal night through a "seaming" mischance...

(Suddenly, something rips in LaCroque's dress. She gasps and becomes embarrassed. The crowd laughs at her. The laughter continues until one of the dancers accidentally kicks LaCroque off the stage and sends her crashing into the audience.)

Dancers: (gasp in horror)

Narrator: Her fame ended most tragically.

Young LaCroque: (sobbing)

(The tragic flashback ends.)

Madeline: Alors?

Fifi: Then she could no longer perform because she felt so humiliated.

Madeline: Quel dommage!

Ash Ketchum: But it was an accident. Why didn't she just move on and find another job?

Fifi: Because she had no money. So, she sold her long hair to make lace. Now, she runs the factory. (coughs) And she will cut off your hair like mine if you make trouble, Madeline. And I'm pretty sure that she will cut off your hair if she finds you here, Ash.

Madeline: It will grow back. I will take the chance. I will find a way out.

Fifi: You are not scared?

Madeline: I am angry!

Ash Ketchum: And I don't care if that witch cuts my hair if she finds me here. I'm not afraid of her. Even if she does find me, I'll shock her with my Pikachu's Thunderbolt! And whip her too!

Fifi: Wow! You really are a brave person, Mr. Ketchum.

Ash Ketchum: Thanks. And you know what, Fifi? Once you're free, I'll be sure that we can help you and the other girls to your families.

Fifi: Oh, well, you see, we have no family. None of us.

Ash Ketchum: (gasps) You mean you're all orphans?

Pikachu: Pika?

Fifi: Yes, LaCroque and Henri lied to the courts. They say they will take care of us. Then treat us like this.

Ash Ketchum: Well, that doesn't sound fair.

Fifi: No, it isn't.

Madeline: Don't worry, Fifi. We can look after each other.

Fifi: Like real friends.

Madeline: Better. Like family.

Fifi: Family? You think so?

Madeline: I know so.

Ash Ketchum: Sure. A family must always stay together.

Pikachu: Pikachu!

Mouse: (squeaks)

Girls: (laughs)

(Thunder roars and the girls get scared.)

Ash Ketchum: (scared by the thunder) Uh-oh. I think I better get going now. Miss Clavel and everyone else might be wondering where I am and are probably worried about me. But don't worry, Madeline. I'll make sure to inform them that you're safe for now. And the rest of you girls. I  promise you all that I will find a way to get everyone out of here as well. Because I've got a plan. If it works, it will surely help you escape from this horrible place and bring that evil woman to justice for good. And Madeline, here. (digs into his backpack and gives her a blanket to keep warm for the night) It isn't much, but it'll at least keep you warm for the night. Just don't let LaCroque see it. Okay?

Madeline: Okay. Merci, Ash. (hugs Ash before he begins to depart)

Ash Ketchum: (unlocks the door with his card and goes to exit the detention room) I'll be back soon with reinforcements. And remember, stay out of trouble. (closes the door)

Madeline: Bye, Ash.

Factory girls: Bye.

Fifi: Will he come back and save us, Madeline? (coughs)

Madeline: Don't you worry, Fifi. I know he will return to help us. For he promised us that he will bring help.

Fifi: But what is his plan? Will it work?

Madeline: Who knows? Whatever he is planning, I hope it will help us. But right now, we must stay together. Now, listen up, I've got a plan of my own.

(Ash goes back to the window, climbs back out, closes it. and recalls Lucario and Infernape. He and Pikachu were just about to leave as the rain and thunder begin to roar, when suddenly...)

Jessie: (off-screen) Well, well, well. What have we here? Two uninvited guests who have the nerve to spy on Madame LaCroque and expose her lace factory!

James: Well, if it isn't the pesky, young twerp!

Meowth: And his little partner, Pikachu!

Ash Ketchum: (quietly) Uh-oh!

Meowth: Don't think you can get away that easily this time!

Jessie: Prepare for trouble!

James: And make it double!

Jessie: To protect the world from devastation!

James: To unite all people within our nation!

Jessie: To denounce the evils of truth and love!

James: To extend our reach to the stars above!

Jessie: Jessie!

James: James!

Jessie: Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!

James: Surrender now or prepare to fight!

Wobbuffet: Wobbuffet!

Meowth: Meowth, dat's right!

Ash Ketchum: Huh. I might have guessed. So, you must be working for Madame LaCroque, Team Rocket!

Jessie: Right-a-roonie, twerp.

James: We noticed two Pokémon guarding an opened window while we're on guard duty and found out they would belong to a certain someone.  However, instead of trying to capture them head on, we decided to wait outside and ambush you at the right time once you dematerialized your Lucario and Infernape. Thank you for doing us a favor, twerp.

Ash Ketchum: (to himself) I guess I overstayed my visit. (turns to Team Rocket) You guys should know that it's wrong to force children to work in this sweatshop!

Meowth: Dat's what da little twoip said dat got her thrown into da clink for stickin' up for de paleface twoip who was hackin' up a lung.

Jessie: Time to teach you a lesson in manners, twerp! Get in there, Seviper!

James: Go, Carnivine!

(Both Pokémon materialize, but Carnivine tries to munch on James's head)

James: Don't attack me, you ding-dong! Let me go!

Meowth: He's in way ovah his head.

Ash Ketchum: If it's a battle you want, then it's a battle you're gonna get! (Takes out a Pokéball) Dragonite, I choose you!

(Dragonite materializes)

Ash Ketchum: Get in there too, Pikachu!

Pikachu: Pika!

Ash Ketchum: Dragonite, Hurricane! Pikachu, Thunderbolt!

(Both Pokémon launch their respective attacks at Team Rocket's Pokémon, knocking them out, effortlessly)

Ash Ketchum: Let's go, Dragonite!

(Ash mounts onto Dragonite's back with Pikachu in tow and they fly away)

Meowth: (coughs) Hey, where's the twerp and his Pikachu?

(Team Rocket frantically look around to find Ash and Pikachu.)

Meowth: Where did they go?

Jessie: I don't see them.

James: Me neither.

Meowth: Well, they've got to be around here somewhere. (sees them flying away on Dragonite) Hey, there they are!

Jessie: You won't get away so easy!

Pikachu: (hears Team Rocket along with Ash) Pika?

Ash Ketchum: (to Team Rocket) You think that was easy? (he and Pikachu shrug it off and continue flying far away from Team Rocket and back to the old vine-covered house)

Jessie: (growls) Forget this! Come on, you guys! We'd better go inform Madame LaCroque that she's got an annoying spy on her property.
